Research Internship Positions (2016-2017) at CEMMIS

The Centre for Mediterranean, Middle East and Islamic Studies (CEMMIS) of the University of Peloponnese is offering four internships, on a voluntary basis, for the 2016-2017 academic year. The interns, that will be supervised by senior associates, will be dealing with the study and analysis of ongoing events.

N. KOTZIAS: We opted to have this meeting in Rhodes because of the island’s long history. The first Israelo-Palestinian meetings, an armistice agreement and international Middle East conferences aimed at finding a solution to the issue back in the 1940s were actually held here, in Rhodes. Moreover, there were many meetings with regard to this region back in the 1950s, the 1970s and the start of the 1980s. It is not accidental nor is was it random as Rhodes brings together various styles and cultures, spanning a wide historical range from ancient Greece to Italian architecture at the heart of the city of Rhodes.

Rhodes Conference for Security and Stability (Rhodes, 8-9 September 2016)

The Rhodes Conference for Security and Stability brings together the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and high-ranking officials of Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Italy, Slovakia, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, at an ancient crossroads of peoples and cultures.

This initiative, launched by Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Kotzias, paves the way for the establishment of an annual forum for dialogue, aiming to deepen cooperation among the key players in a region plagued by security challenges and destabilizing forces on the premise that no single country can tackle the problems of this day and age.

Summer School 2016 | Religious Pluralism in the Middle East

The Department of Political Science and International Relation of the University of Peloponnese in association with the Centre for Religious Pluralism in the Middle East are organising a Summer School on "Religious Pluralism in the Middle East", on August 23-26, 2016 in the seaside town of Kiato.

International academics and experts will give lectures on challenges faced by the religious communities in the region, the protection cultural heritage, geopolitics of religion and inter-religious dialogue.
